6 more weeks of winter..time for a cupcake!

A post on Serious Eats reminded me that its Groundhog Day today so I thought I' d continue my tradition of posting some cute pics of Groundhog cupcakes to celebrate!

So in order from top to bottom; Punxsutawney Phil's prediction (more Winter...boo), the cutest little groundhog from A Baked Creation, a sweet little creation from Dozen Flours and finally lots of the little blighters from Philly Cupcake via Philadelphia City Paper.

Thanks to everyone for use of their photos!

Another cupcake book to add to the collection

Last week I spotted that Aldi were selling 1001 Cupcakes and Cookies in store for £4.99 so I made a point of popping into my local store to pick one up. As well as pages of really nice looking cupcakes, the book includes muffins, cookies and yummy items like millionaires shortbread. The consultant editor is Susanna Tee, Great pics and simple to follow recipes (from the look of them -I've not tried any yet) and it gets good reviews on Amazon, so looks like a great little cupcake book.

The front cover is the same picture as my magnetic cupcake note pad, also available on Amazon.

How cute are these?

These are almost too cute to eat!

From Albuquerque's Cupcakeology cupcake store, found via Cupcakes take the Cake, these were too cute not to share them with you!

Warning - if you click on the cupcakeology site be prepared to drool... I want that butterscotch top hat cupcake on their homepage!

A rather spiffy cupcake topper

At work we have someone with a fine moustache (aka el moustachio). As such I'm always on the lookout for fancy moustached items and was rather tickled to find this cute little moustache cupcake topper from my new favourite (non cupcake) site Hannah Zakari. Not sure I'd shell out nearly £5 for it but it is cute.

The site also has some cupcake jewellery which you must check out. I featured it on the blog a long time ago so wont re post everything just click here and here. Oh go on then, I've added a pic of the bracelet!

Thanks to Hannah Zakari for use of the pic! (When I added the tags I realised I'd written about Hannah's site before - my memory isn't what it used to be...ooops!)

Me want cookie, me eat cookie!

So yesterday we FINALLY got our hands on some of Bea's ultra cute cookie monster cupcakes and they were worth the wait!!!

They were utterly adorable, possible the cutest cupcakes I've ever seen and they tasted just as good! I'm not usually a fan of chocolate cupcakes but these were really tasty and the frosting was out of this world - it was chocolate fudge frosting and there was loads of it - it was frosting heaven!

You can order them (no minimum) and I implore you if you like cupcakes to try them!

Cookie Monster cupcakes

Bea from Beas of Bloomsbury sent me a link to her Flickr and her most recent cupcakes - aren't they FAB!

I plan to pop there tomorrow on the way to work to see if they have any in stock!

Punxsutawney Phil I forgot...

it was Groundhog Day yesterday. I knew I was forgetting something, all day I knew I had to remember something but was distracted by the snow, and today when I checked Cupcakes Take the Cake I realised...Groundhog Day!!!! I've been a fan of cute groundhogs for some time, so I'm perturbed with myself that I forgot - I hope Phil's "prediction" of 6 more weeks of winter isn't true - its only 4 weeks till I go to NY!!!

Cute groundhog cupcakes found via Google at Familyfun.

Cakespy take it to the sweet!

Cakespy decided to something cute (in their words "touchy feely") about the fact that sometimes life sucks..long commutes; waiting in line; dealing with rude people; being broke...I'd personally add having a cold that NEVER goes away (possibly due to long commutes and people with not enough manners to cover their hand when they cough/sneeze on me..hmmm), but all in all, I'm with Cakespy, sometimes life does suck.

So what to do? If you're me - eat a cupcake, if you're Cakespy, bake a load of cute plaster of paris cupcakes and leave them inspirational messages around the neighbourhood - how sweet! You can see more pics and read what happened here.

This reminds me of our good old UK version, The Great Cake Escape. I've still not managed to get to one of their events, or find a cupcake, but they're going to be at the Amersham Arms pub on the 7th Feb so I may try and get along then, although I aim to be in Richmond as its Outsider Tarts cupcake day and I'll miss March as I'll be in NY so am planning a pre-birthday treat from my fave cupcakers!

Thanks to Cakespy for the pics and the cuteness!

Happy Chinese New Year!

Today is Chinese New Year and I found these very cute "Year of the Ox" cupcakes on W's goodthings Flickr site.

I heart the little ox popping out the top of the cupcake!

Its all in the frosting

Mrs Beasley's of Hollywood certainly live up to their slogan - their cupcake to frosting ratio is making me drool! Her colossal cupcake comes with 3" of frosting..yummy!!

I wish somewhere in the UK would do something similar to the 100 calorie popper cupcakes they do - although I suppose the mini cupcakes at the Primrose bakery or Crumbs and Doilies are similar - just when I'm buying I tend to be swayed by their normal size cakes!

And of course no cupcake business in the US is complete at the moment without their Obama cupcakes!

Le Cool Cupcakes

As featured in this weeks Le Cool email

Bakery Primrose Bakery
With claps and squeals of delight, it was on a recent shopping trip that me and my friend stumbled upon this treasure trove of a bakery just off Covent Garden. More twee than a Disney movie,
Primrose Bakery is an upscale cake haven suitable for kids, but really catering for grown-ups of the female variety. Help yourself to a (quite amazing) cappuccino and pick from an array of fine and divine cupcakes topped with sweet halos of icing. With a minimal number of tables, I imagine this place is chocca at the weekend (and for good reason too), but should you be so lucky to bag a space, take the time to enjoy this cute little sweetspot with your best female friends, reading coffee table magazines and people watching from the big window. With five-star cupcakes, this is the fine dining of floured goods

The pics are of some lovely cupcakes we enjoyed at Christmas from Primrose!! I fully agree with Le Cool, the cafe is cute as a button but very small - I've managed to bag a seat twice and am always happy to have grabbed one!

Talking of cupcakes...I still haven't had a cupcake since before New Year....good grief!

Green Tea Cupcakes

Crumbs and Doilies flavour of the month is Green Tea - perfect for those who are detoxing/recovering from the festive period...well green tea is healthy innit ;) I aim to go there in a couple of weeks to try some as although I'm not fond of green tea these look rather nice and I missed them last time they were the flavour of the month and this year I'm keen to try all of them :)

Our Green Tea cupcakes are made using real Japanese Sencha green tea from a small farm in Shizuoka. They’re light, zingy and perfect for the post-Christmas detox!

Thanks to Crumbs and Doilies for the pics.

Teeny Weeny Tiny Cupcakes

How scrumptious do these look and sooooo teeny!!!!*

I went back to work today and as well as catching up with work (of course!) I caught up with my NY Daily Candy mail outs - including this one

Listen, cupcake: We need to talk.
We’ve been together for a long time and have been through so much (celebrations, rainy days, sugar pangs, emotional tumult). Whether alone or with a dozen, it has always been a blast.
But it’s already 2009, and I’m young! There are so many dessert trends to fall in love with; I don’t want to be tied down.
Oh, no, please don’t look at me in your cute, miniature stuffed cupcake kind of way. Yes, I know you’ve just been delivered fresh from Baked by Melissa, who makes silver dollar-size treats in flavors like PB&J, s’mores, tie-dye, and cookie dough. But it really is time to move on.
Well, okay, maybe one last little taste.
For old times' sake.

They really do look fab, and ever so cute - however even I don't think I could manage 100 - their minimum order!!! Seriously the tie dye ones look great though!

Photo above courtesy of Baked by Melissa.

*unfortunately the pic is teeny too...sorry...a full size version is available on the website!

Cake...it's the real thing!

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas/Holidays and Santa was good to you all! I got some fab cupcake gifts (and some non-cupcake ones too!!), which of course I shall share in a post v.soon!

Although Christmas has now passed I couldn't resist posting these gorgeous cupcakes from Bakerella - how CUTE are they!?

Happy Holidays everyone!

A new cupcake discovery in South London

wuhu - a new place to buy cupcakes and about 30mins walk from my house (the long way round, up lots and lots of steep hills to work up an appetite!)- Sarah's Cupcakes in Brockley. I shall be heading up that way asap to try some of these from Dandelion Blue deli.

Btw I found Sarah's Cupcakes via a recent article in the Telegraph about cakes.
