Its cupcake weekend...wuhu

Its Outsider Tart's cupcake weekend this weekend and I hope to make it along to the new Chiswick store tomorrow - however there are a lot of road closures so I mightn't make it which is quite perturbing as this months selection looks GOOD - their theme this week is Nebraska :)

Raspberry Polenta with raspberry buttercream
Gingerbread with lemon cream cheese frosting
Maple pecan with maple glaze
Peanut butter chocolate chip with peanut butter frosting
Chocolate Polenta with mocha cream frosting
Blackout
Banana Orange
Vanilla Vanilla (YUM...my fave)

I'm loving the gingerbread, the banana, the peanut butter and of course the vanilla! In fact (as usual) they all sound great!

The Chiswick shop will have a selection of the weekend cucpakes  and also some layer cakes, tarts and brownies...yum! And of course you can catch them at the markets - locations here

Thanks to Outsider Tart for use of their Twitpic of their blackout cupcakes being prepared...think Manny'll be trying to lick the screen when he sees it ;)

A recap of the London cupcake tour

I'm posting this for the lovely Kara, a fellow cupcake addict, who posted asking for any suggestions of where to visit in London, specifically near Knightsbridge.

We did a mini cupcake tour last March for my birthday and all 3 destinations are within walking distance of Knightsbridge and I thought I'd repost the links for Kara and anyone else interested.

The tour went from Crumbs and Doilies at Partridges Market (about 2 mins walk from Sloane Square tube) to Hummingbird Bakery near South Kensington Tube, ending up at Buttercup near High Street Kensington (where you can pop into Wholefoods for a cuppa to re-energise!). You can walk it all in an hour or so (probably quicker if you don't keep stopping) or you can do it all via the underground, or just go to one of them!

You can check our tour at the following links

Feel free to ask any more questions. Oh and if you're near Richmond or Chiswick I urge you to go to Outsider Tarts cupcake weekend - which is next weekend. You wont taste better I promise you!!!

Also if anyone else has any questions about cupcakes in London please get in touch! And dont forget to check out Kara's blog!

The pics above are from our tour last year :)

Its cupcake weekend!!!!

As this weekend straddles two months (as David of Outsider Tart so eloquently put it in their weekly market update!) it is officially CUPCAKE WEEKEND! And what a fantastic sounding array of cupcakes are on offer;

Unfilled options:
Lemon Seed - believe it or not, based on a Victorian recipe with coriander, caraway and currants
Arizona - an oatmeal cake recipe with coconut, pecan caramel drizzle
Lemon Raspberry Corn
Chocolate Polenta - a test run had us addicted

Filled options:
Mexican Chocolate - a hint of cinnamon with pecan fudge glaze
Lemon Meringue
Indian Pudding - a corn and molasses baked pudding inside cream cupcakes
Coffee Hayzelnut - because we just had to use hay one way or another - a coffee flavored cake with a hazelnut filling

Read the story behind the Arizona theme on their blog and GO BUY CUPCAKES! It's going to be cold out there this weekend so you need some comfort food..and their lemon meringue cupcake is to DIE for! Manny's already excited about the Mexican Chocolate!

Btw - if you use walkit.com to find your way to Chiswick Farmers Market type in Dukes Meadow as your destination - they've kindly added it as a destination for me after we got lost last time! How cool are they helping us find our way to cupcakes!

Its the final cupcake!

of the cupcake weekend!

Desperate for a wee on Portobello Road and spotting a Coffee Republic I decided upon a fiendish excuse to use their loo...buying a Lipstick Jungle cupcake, which I mentioned wanting to try earlier this week.

They do a chocolate and a vanilla, and although the manager tried to persuade me to take two I stuck with one, the vanilla. It comes complete with little red lip sprinkles, although they seem to have been a bit miserly with them as mine had very few. So the taste....well, it was like a rubbish mass produced cupcake I'm afraid. The base tasted like a very cheap cake, it felt kind of sticky and not right the frosting wasn't really frosting, it was very sweet and not at all light - instead it was heavy and artificial tasting, definately not good vanilla frosting!

While its nice that coffee shops are trying to introduce cupcakes to the UK market this isn't really going to persuade people to eat cupcakes I don't think - if you want a high street cupcake go to Eat!!
That's it - I'm FULL of cupcakes and am now planning a sugar free few weeks! Well a couple anyways - Manny's promised to take me to Bake-A-Boo in a couple of weeks so until then...
