Do you need an electric cupcake maker?

Lakeland seem to think so.

I think they'd be good for kids, rather than those awful "gourmet" cupcake makers that were the toy of the moment a couple of Christmas' ago which relied on packet mixes for the cake.

Scrumptious home-made cupcakes without having to turn the oven on? Sounds too good to be true, but with Lakeland’s new machine, it’s as simple as making a toasted sandwich, and they’re ready in no time!

Just like a sandwich maker, our cute cupcake creator is extremely easy to use – plug it in and lights indicate when it’s ready; follow one of the included recipes, pour in the mix and in 9 to 10 minutes your cupcakes are baked to perfection!

With premium non-stick coating. For best results, use cupcake case
s.

Costing £39.99 it makes 6 cupcakes at a time and comes with 5 cupcake recipes. You can purchase yours here. I shalln't be bothering (I have an oven and how difficult is it really to turn that on!), but would be interested to hear if anyone buys one, or your thoughts on the cupcake maker.

i was just thinking the exact same thing! What a waste of time. It might be useful for non-cooks that want to whip up a few treats, but really if you can plug that in, why not just switch on the oven, and make 12 cakes instead of a measly 6!

Oooh! I see they finally got those here! They've been out in the US for a year or so now. I want one - I don't know why, just because LOL! They look like fun. I'm a sucker for gimmicky things...

HMMMM sounds like another way of making children lazy to me! It takes away all the tender loving care aspect and a big part of why we bake :( xxxx

Not really making kids lazy if they are actually having to follow a recipe and make their own mix with TLC (instead of the packet rubbish) and maybe a bit safer than using an oven for the kids, so they really can do it all themselves! It's not badly priced compared to the 'Toy Version' My kids would love it!

My aunty has been diagnosed with an illness. She used to be a wonderful baker but now she is not able to bend to her oven. She misses making cakes so much. This is just ideal for her. Worktop height and no bending for her!!

Norah - it sounds like it'd be perfect for your auntie. I've seen it cheaper in Sainsburys, and Next do a pink version thats cheaper also!
