An-Tea Establishment

As mentioned in the last post I'm not that fussed about the Royal Wedding but I do like cake, and punk. Which means I really want to go to the An-Tea Establishment afternoon tea at the Met bar. It looks right up my street, I love rhubarb and custard cupcakes! And macaroons. And roly poly.

Savoury dishes include ‘quiche a la fergie’, breadless cucumber sandwiches, prawn cocktails and a warm Wensleydale cheese & pickle muffin. For those with a sweet tooth, ‘strawberries & cream’ macaroons, rhubarb & custard cupcakes, organic compote roly-poly and many more all feature on our delicious hand-made menu.

Available for a limited period between 22nd April - 8th May, 3-6pm. Price £27 + service charge (12.5%) per person. All reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

Anyone want to come with me, doubt Manny will fancy it. You can have my prawns (I'm allergic)

Who you callin' cupcake?

I just pre-ordered Who You Callin' Cupcake by Michelle and Valentin Garcia of Bleeding Heart Bakery from Amazon and I'm already excited about baking some of their awesome creations! One day I will visit my awesome chum Renee (who I miss LOADS!) in Chicago and eat lots of cupcakes with her there!

Punk Rock Bingo Cupcakes

I baked some cupcakes to be given out as prizes at a recent punk rock bingo event at one of my fave pubs, the Grosvenor in Stockwell.

I used the lovely Hannah's Last Rolo Cupcake recipe, topped with Hummingbirds chocolate frosting and good old Hummingbird Vanilla, which so far hasn't let me down! I decided to supersize the cupcakes and go for the full on big cupcake effect which seemed to go down well with those who ate them!

I also packed them in some really cute boxes, both from Wilton. The little pink stripy ones hold one cupcake and were a gift from my lovely friend Dennis (no pic here but you can see them on my Facebook), and the bigger ones I bought from Cake Craft Shop online, only after I'd bought them did I realise they have a store in Bromley which I can get to by bus! I must go check out their store as they have tonnes of fab stuff! These boxes were great, easy to put together (I got some cheaper plain ones and they were like a krypton factor test to assemble!) and they held the cupcakes in place really well and ensured they made the trip on the bus safely!

I'm particularly impressed with my punked up cupcake which I made all spiky and punky with my white chocolate drops! And if you look closely you can see the dinosaurs trying to escape the pink frosting....I heart fancy sprinkles!

From the ever fantastic Crumbs and Doilies, some great punk cupcakes that were made for a wedding - how cool!!

Also pictured, the cupcake of the month from C&D, mint choc chip - the description is making my mouth water!

Some of the greatest chocolate cupcakes we've ever had the pleasure to produce - Valrhona cocoa powder, Lescure AOC butter, you know the sort of thing, but this time with added Callebaut milk chocolate chips - heaps of 'em! All this, and a smooth buttercream icing made with organic peppermint extract. Marvellous.

I am going to try to get there next Saturday to see if they taste as good as they sound!
