A recap of the London cupcake tour

I'm posting this for the lovely Kara, a fellow cupcake addict, who posted asking for any suggestions of where to visit in London, specifically near Knightsbridge.

We did a mini cupcake tour last March for my birthday and all 3 destinations are within walking distance of Knightsbridge and I thought I'd repost the links for Kara and anyone else interested.

The tour went from Crumbs and Doilies at Partridges Market (about 2 mins walk from Sloane Square tube) to Hummingbird Bakery near South Kensington Tube, ending up at Buttercup near High Street Kensington (where you can pop into Wholefoods for a cuppa to re-energise!). You can walk it all in an hour or so (probably quicker if you don't keep stopping) or you can do it all via the underground, or just go to one of them!

You can check our tour at the following links

Feel free to ask any more questions. Oh and if you're near Richmond or Chiswick I urge you to go to Outsider Tarts cupcake weekend - which is next weekend. You wont taste better I promise you!!!

Also if anyone else has any questions about cupcakes in London please get in touch! And dont forget to check out Kara's blog!

The pics above are from our tour last year :)

North West London cupcake tour...

Planning the cupcakes tours is half the fun - I get to drool over pictures of cupcakes and plan routes (this is Mannys favourite part as he can spend ages perusing maps!). So having successfully completed the cupcake tour of SW London, we are busy planning the NW London equivalent, hopefully for next month. So far we have 3 places to visit including the rather fab looking Primrose Bakery in Primrose Hill. I've already had their cupcakes from Selfridges and they're lovely, but nothing better than getting them straight from the source!! Don't they look GORGEOUS!!!!

Cupcake Tour - an added extra

On our way home from the Cupcake Tour we popped into a local Morrisons store we'd never been in before to grab some shopping and I was chuffed to find some more cupcake bits and to make it even better they were on sale and an utter steal :)
The glass work surface protector was practically being given away for £1.48 and the mug set was £2.99 for all three bits!!! Sooooooo cute and a fantastic bargain - a great end to the day of cupcakes :)

Cupcake Tour - Buttercup Cake Shop

Our third, and final, destination on our Cupcake Tour of South West London ended at the fantastic Buttercup Cake Shop in Kensington! When we arrived there weren't many cakes left, but thankfully they had some of my favourite, banoffee, left!! And they were just putting the finishing/frosting touches to some double chocolate ones which Manny couldn't resist! Think he was hoping they'd offer him the opportunity to lick the bowl ;)

We had the Buttercup cupcakes when we got home, following a walk through Hyde Park and a trip to Morrisons where we acquired some more cupcake-goodies - and as usual they were utterly, UTTERLY gorgeous. Of all the ones I had today I think this is my favourite but I do think the flavour swayed it - I heart banoffee!

In all the cupcake tour was an utterly great way to spend a cold Saturday afternoon - we didn't actually eat that many cupcakes, considering how much temptation there was and in all we walked about 7 miles or so so worked off lots of calories!!!!

We are now planning the North West London leg of the tour for April :)

Cupcake tour - Hummingbird Bakery

After a good stomp down the Kings Road (past where me and Manny got married on Halloween 2001!) we finally arrived at The Hummingbird Bakery ready for some food after a good walk. From the outside it looked super cute and walking in...I felt how I imagine Charlie felt when he first walked into the chocolate factory - I was in CUPCAKE HEAVEN!! We ordered some cupcakes (obviously!) - a pink vanilla for me and a double chocolate for Manny, grabbed a seat and waited for our coffees before tucking in - and it was like torture sitting there while they made our drinks with a gorgeous looking cupcake sitting in front of me - I swear I could hear it saying "eat me, EAT ME"!! After what seemed like an eternity, which was probably in fact about 3minutes, our lovely cappuccinos arrived and finally I could tuck in and good grief it was worth the wait!! UTTERLY gorgeous frosting, lovely batter/cake and just fabulous - one of the best I've tried.
They were so good as soon as he'd finished Manny joined the queue again to get us a take out - a red velvet for me and a frosted brownie for him - which we had for breakfast on Sunday!!! The place was really busy but the staff were ultra friendly and helpful and seemed to really love their jobs - then again who wouldn't love to work in a cupcake store!!!!!? The other cakes in there looked great too - and Manny couldn't help but notice how generous the slices were (he was drooling over a giant devils food cake!).
Definitely one to visit again, and again, and again......truly cupcaketastic!

The Cupcake Tour of London - Crumbs and Doilies

Saturday 10th March - FINALLY the day arrived - my much anticipated (well it was by me!)cupcake tour of South West London!

First stop on the cupcake trail was Partridges Market just near Sloane Square for our first try of Crumbs and Doilies. Thankfully although we were a bit late they still had some yummy looking cupcakes left and we opted for a little tray of mini-cupcake tasters so we could try a few of their flavours, including flavour of the month, Guinness, which Manny loved and I didn't get a bite of it to comment. I took a couple of pics of the stall and the lady working there was really friendly - and their cupcakes were lovely!! Definitely one of the nicer cupcakes I've tried, the forsting was yummy and the batter was lovely and light -a perfect cupcake! I tried a lemon, chocolate and vanilla - they were all minis so I'm sure there weren't too many calories! Next time I shall get a big one and try them - I loved the look of the blue ones when we went but I was trying not to be too greedy!

They are offering an ultra cute Easter package of Easter Boxes, which contain 15 mini cupcakes and come beautifully wrapped with spring-time ribbon, and Easter Eggboxes, which contain 6 mini cupcakes and come in special Easter egg cartons. Easter Boxes are £12, and Easter Eggboxes are £5. These can be pre-ordered using the link above and collected at the Market - I'm off to order mine now (resisting the urge to buy a HUGE box for myself!!!), see you there :)
