Craving cupcakes...Daisy Cakes to the rescue

So today I was home alone and craving cupcakes - I have gone nearly 2 weeks without a "fix" so I woke up thinking FROSTING! Then I realised I really wasn't in a 'getting on the bus and listening to each stop being announced then jostling with a zillion people' mood so I decided to ditch my idea of going to Buttercup and went to Daisy Cakes Bake Shop in Greenwich instead.

As soon as I walked into Daisy Cakes and smelt the fresh cupcakes baking I knew it had been a good idea - I quickly got a red velvet and a vanilla and headed home to enjoy a people free Saturday!!

Both cupcakes were gorgeous (I liked the red velvet base best and the vanilla frosting...go figure!) and my people free day has been great :)

Sex and the City in downtown Greenwich...London

Daisy Cakes Bake Shop in Greenwich is having a Sex and the City night on Friday (30th May) to celebrate the opening of the fabulous Sex and the City movie - they're opening late (till 7 I think, but call first to check if you're planning on going!) and will be serving cocktails, having a SATC theme and also giving discounts on purchases. A good excuse for a cupcake end to the week!

The above pics are of some recent cupcakes from Daisy Cakes that I've not added on here before. They were two vanilla (all they had in the shop y'day) which were absolutely divine! The frosting was totally vanilla'y and fab, and the other two are strawberry and chocolate and a jammie dodger which was FANTASTIC although it left me a bit sticky it was worth it :)

A marathon week ends with ....

more cupcakes!!!

This week I've walked more than 54 miles according to my pedometer (and leg muscles!) so I thought after another huge walk today, round Greenwich and Blackheath (even though it was pouring with rain, thundering and freezing!) I deserved a little treat so on passing Daisy Cakes and noticing a cabinet stuffed with various cupcake flavours I popped in and bought myself a coconut cupcake and Manny a mocha one.

The last couple of times I've been to Daisy Cakes I was a bit perturbed that they seemed to have changed their frosting recipe..and not for the better, so I'm glad to report that they seem to be back on track! My coconut cupcake was incredibly tasty - the frosting is back to the great stuff I'd become used to from Daisy Cakes and was full of coconut flavour and bits! I'm chuffed that my local cupcake emporium is back to making fantastic cupcakes!!

Not cupcake related but I thought I'd post a pic of the squirrel who crawled up my leg and tugged on my trousers to demand another nut at the park as well - he was ultra cute and kept following me around the flower gardens so I'd give him more nuts!!

Chocolate overload at Daisy Cakes

After a couple of disappointing visits to Daisy Cakes in Greenwich recently, (where their frosting seems to have gone downhill in the taste department a bit), I met up with my chum Helen and went for a coffee at the Organic Cafe in Greenwich last Wednesday (the Coffee Cellar - my fave was closed) and we then popped into Daisy Cakes to get some cupcakes. There was only chocolate on offer so I got a couple and took them home (one was for Manny) and once again I have to say I wasn't that fussed about the frosting. The chocolate one was better than their recent vanilla that I've had (Which now seem to not really taste of vanilla) but it still wouldn't be in my top 5! Come on Daisy Cakes, your sliding down my faves and its just not on - I want the old lovely Daisy Cakes back!!!

Pootletastic!

Not cupcake related, but while browsing the Daisy Cakes Bake Shop site (http://http//www.daisycakesbakeshop.com I found this cake and I simply must get a similar one!!! Manny has called me pootle ever since I got a wooly hat with a pom-pom on top so this is just totally me! Maybe mines could be cupcakes with a pootle on????

I have failed!!!!

Well my self imposed cupcake ban has been a failure. I am weak and just could not resist the call of Daisy Cakes Bake Shop!! I blame Manny for rushing me this morning to try and get to Greenwich Park in time to see the Time Ball on Flamsteed House at 1pm (http://www.nmm.ac.uk/server/show/ConWebDoc.20912) which once again we failed to see! We did however get to see the deer (sleeping again!) and feed lots of squirrels monkey nuts!!!
After a long walk in the park a cup of "the best coffee in Greenwich" was required from the Cellar Cafe where Manny had a scrummy slice of carrot cake which was baked by our very own Daisy Cakes Bake Shop!!! I just couldn't go there and not pop in - it would've been rude, especially as one of the girls in the store popped into the cafe and recognised us!
The top 3 pics above show our cakes from Daisy Cakes - mine was a vanilla with sprinkles and Manny had a mocha!!! As usual they were utterly gorgeous and its always so nice to pop in there as its such a cute little cupcake shop and the people that work there are friendly!!!
The bottom picture is of a beautiful cupcake I just chanced upon while wandering round the food section of the market - it was made by the Real Baking Company - and is called their very vanilla cupcake! As well as looking absolutely gorgeous, it tasted divine!
Now - wonder if I can manage next weekend without a cupcake!!!?

A weekend of cupcakes!

This is my last weekend of stuffing my face with cupcakes till my birthday..honest! There has been rather a lot of cupcake eating recently so a couple of weeks off will do me good!

This weekend was rather cupcake-tastic. Saturday after a long walk round Greenwich park, with a stop at the honest sausage for breakfast http://www.honestsausage.com/greatfood.html, (great food but their hot chocolate wasn't hot!!), we popped into Daisy Cakes Bake Shop and they had a couple of flavours we'd not tried so we bought - a bounty, peanut butter, red velvet and chocolate. I'd never tried a red velvet before and it was utterly gorgeous - definately my second favourite after vanilla I think. The peanut butter one was nice but rather heavy for me (it had peanut butter in the batter too!) however Manny managed to finish it off for me after his 2 (the bounty one was lovely and I shall definately be trying it once my self-imposed period of abstinence is over!

Daisy Bakes Cake Shop Greenwich - first visit (of many to come!!)

[Please note: these posts are not necessarily in date order - nor have I just suddenly visited all these cupcake shops in the last few days - this is my first attempt at a blog and I decided to update all the shops I've visited in the last few weeks/months that I have pics of - I do love to take pics of my cupcakes before eating them!!!!]
Whilst browsing cupcake sites at work at the end of January I found mention of a cupcake store in Greenwich, which is about 1/2 an hour walk away from my house (I think of everything in walking now that I walk most places..no more "its a bus ride away"!). I was disheartened to read that they dont serve cupcakes on weekends and kept meaning to get there in the week but it was impossible to sneak out of work early enough that week! However after a bit of a stomp round Greenwich park on the Sunday after a row with Manny I thought I'd just peek in and see the store and thankfully their website was lying and there were cupcakes!!!! My mood lifted at the sight of such beautiful cupcakes and I immediately had to buy a couple (including one for the aforementioned Manny - I was still in a sulk with him but even then I couldn't deny him such a lovely treat as a cupcake!) I opted for the vanilla (my favourite!) and got Manny a red velvet as they seemed to be quite romantic and cute (my friend from the states tells me that these are THE valentine cupcake!)

These cupcakes were UTTERLY gorgeous - some of the best I've had in the UK for sure. The cakes were really nice and light and the frosting was nice and not too sweet! I'm sooo happy this is within walking distance of my house -although I'm not sure that this is good for my diet..but if I walk there and back its an hours walk so therefore good for me..and calories consumed after excercise dont count :)

Daisy Cakes Bake Shop - the return

The first weekend in Feb as part of my new Fitbug regime I dragged Manny for a long walk around Greenwich park which was lovely and as a reward we popped into Daisy Cakes Bake Shop (http://www.daisycakesbakeshop.com/) after we left the park, stopping for a coffee in the Cellar Cafe opposite it for the best cappucino I've had (Manny had a fab spicy mocha which had chilli flavoured hot chocolate in!). We also finally made it to the Dog and Bell pub (http://www.thedogandbell.com/index.html) after about 3 years of meaning to get there, where sampled some rather scrummy kriek (only my second alcholic drink of 2008!)

Anyways back to the cupcakes - after a couple of drinks we staggered home and had our cupcakes - a white chocolate and raspberry for Manny and a carrot with cream cheese frosting for me. Sorry the pictures are a bit squiffy but so was I - I did take one of them in the box too but alas it looked like a cupcake massacre in there - I blame Mannys "helpfullness" in the pub of turning them upside down! Although the cake part of mine was lovely, the cream cheese frosting was a bit sickly sweet and I can't say I'd have this flavour again - definately worth trying if you like sweet frosting though! Mannys white chocolate cake I didn't try (it barely hit the sides going in I think!!!) but the frosting on his was really nice and I'd recommend this one, the fresh raspberries were a nice touch!
