Elvis cupcakes

January 8th would've been Elvis' 74th birthday and a few cupcake stores dedicated some special cupcakes to him on the day!

Crumbs Bake Shop paid tribute to Elvis with a cupcake best described as "a banana flavored yellow cake filled with banana cream topped with a swirl of banana butter cream and peanut butter frosting." This cupcake was only available at the NYC Crumbs stores, but select NY stores will carry the Elvis until the end of the month.

Sprinkles Cupcakes offered up a limited edition banana cupcake with peanut butter frosting and topped with a gold star named "The King." The limited edition cupcake was only available on January 8th at the Beverly Hills store.

I've had a couple of peanut butter cupcakes and although I ADORE peanut butter I've never been very keen on peanut butter cupcakes -they always just seem a little dry. I like the sound of the crumbs banana butter cream and peanut butter frosting though! Mind you I've not had a cupcake since BEFORE Christmas so right now I'd probably eat ANY cupcake!!!

58 days to go....

And I shall be in NEW YORK!!!!!!!!!!!! As you can tell I'm rather excited about it - and have been since I booked the trip :) Poor Manny's been putting up with my constant counting of the days and bombarding him with places to visit (mainly food/cupcake places I have admit!).

Blondie and Brownie's blog has been one of the many fantastic sources of great cupcake places in NY that I plan to visit. At the moment my list is nearing 40 cupcake places but I think we may have to chop that down a bit - we're only there for 8 days! This is where lists such as Blondie and Brownie's round up of the best cupcakes of 2008 REALLY helps me!

It's just a pity we can't taste some of their own baked cupcakes - I know Manny would love to taste the Elvis one (bottom pic) complete with bacon 'sprinkles' but thankfully Batch are serving some bacon ones at the moment so fingers crossed he'll get his bacon cupcake fix...shudder
The top pic is Crumbs' Baba Booey cupcake complete with peanut butter cream cheese, chocolate cake and frosting, and peanut butter chips.

Thanks to Blondie and Brownie for the pics!

Crumbs...I missed free cupcakes!

Crumbs in New York gave away 1,000 free cupcakes last Friday to thank Americans for voting, I suppose it'd have been a bit of an expense flying all that way for a freebie cupcake but they do look worth it!!

The pic is from Food in Mouth blog where the writer was lucky enough to sample a Baba Booey cupcake - named after a producer on shock jock Howard Stern's show the Baba Booey is a chocolate cake filled with peanut butter cream cheese, covered with 1/2 chocolate cream cheese and 1/2 peanut butter cream cheese (frosted like an american black and white cookie), surrounded by mini peanut butter chips... sounds AWESOME!!!

Also to celebrate the election Zilly Rosen of Zillycakes in Buffalo, New York, made this cupcake mosaic yesterday to show her support from 1,240 cupcakes!!
