Me eat kooky, om nom nom nom

I have been meaning to visit Sunday Upmarket again for months  to try Kooky Bakes baked goods. In particular the Snickers Slice, which I've been lusting after for some time via Facebook!

How yum does the Snicker Slice look?

Drooool

Nearly as good as it tasted.

It was fabulous! A fudgy brownie with peanut butter cake topped with salted caramel buttercream (this was DIVINE and I'm not fond of salted caramel!) topped with a thin chocolate on top. One of the nicest cakes I've eaten - ever! Oh and I shared it with Manny as I'm a nice girl.

We shared some more of Kooky's goodies - including the glorious technicoloured Krazy Kid slice - Fruit Loop cereal made into a gooey marshmallow'y Rice Crispie style treat. I really liked this - nice and chewy and perfect with a cup of tea!

Goooooey goodness

Then came Manny's S'mores slice. Yes it was Manny's. We shared the rest of our Kooky haul but when it came to this one I got a wee sliver to taste and he scarfed the rest! Tsk. This was definitely his favourite. The moist chocolate brownie, covered in sticky marshmallows with digestive crumbs brings together all of the S'mores elements in a gooey, sticky bundle of joy. And it kept him quiet for five minutes- well apart from the usual "hhhmmm hmmmm hmmm"ing that accompanies him enjoying something chocolatey!

Next up was my second favourite - the pina colada whoopie pie. This was gorgeous to look at, and to eat! The filling on the whoopie pie was one of the nicest I have tasted - it was like a mousse buttercream - light, fluffy and melt in your mouth - oh and very, very tasty.

Squished but still yum!

Last, but not least, our only cupcake of this visit, a rather squished black forest gateaux cupcake. It wasn't squished when we got it but I had a bit of a blonde moment with the bag on the way home and it ended up a wee bit mis-shapen. This didn't affect the taste though - moist chocolate cake, with a cherry kirsch filling, covered in delicious vanilla buttercream. Again the buttercream was gorgeous. Manny scoffed the cherry too - sod.

I highly recommend a visit to UpMarket to buy some Kooky goodies, and say hi to Scott (Mr Kooky) as he must spend hours in the kitchen creating these fabulous treats. Well I know he spends hours as I'm forever drooling over his Twitter and Facebook updates.

You can find Kooky Bakes at Sunday UpMarket at the Old Truman Brewery just off Brick Lane. They're at the back entrance/exit off the indoor market bit.

  2. Thanks Sarah Jane, its always nice to hear that someone enjoys my blog :)
Why haven't I noticed before that you have a donkey? Maybe you could come to London for the day and visit and I could donkey-sit. I adore donkeys - nearly as much as I love cupcakes!

  3. Anne I love donkeys too! It always makes me sad when I go to the seaside and see them being abused for human entertainment :(

Anyways KOOKY BAKES! My partner in crime. FAB blog post. I'm not surprised you seem to have purchased one of everything. I might just have to pay him a visit on Sunday. Need that snickers slice, oh and the kooky slice...and the lemon meringue slice....and... I might just pass out.

  4. I do always look - but don't always get time to post...

You are welcome to visit, make cupcakes AND cuddle the miniature donkey. Cocoa is a real sweetie.

Maybe one day I'll take you up on your offer - but it's rare I've got any spare time without a toddler !

  5. You're always one step ahead aren't you Anne!! I just found some pics of kooky bakes stall a few weeks back and was thinking how I'd really like to pay it a visit because all the treats look amazing!!! I also love the way they arrange it and their stall looks so stylish! however it seems they only do their stall on a Sunday and we don't spend money on Sundays so I guess it's not to be...I will satisy myself by drooling at your pictures instead! that white choc and raspberry cupcake looks yum, and the snickers slice is humongous!! I can imagine it would have been tasty!

  9. Molly - you are krazy for kookybakes ;) I agree with you donkeys have such sad little faces I just want to smoosh them. My friend in school had a donkey as a pet (she got it for her birthday), it was adorable!

Sarah-Jane a miniature donkey? oh my - that just sounds too cute!

Gem - I'd love to think I was but alas KookyBakes and MollyBakes have been around for some time but I've not had a chance to go visit until now. The stall is gorgeous and everything we ate was fabulous. I had to stop myself from buying one of everything! They did a stall on a Saturday a few weeks ago - keep an eye on their website as its worth visiting if they do it again!

Manny - everything was lovely :)

Archies Mum - did you drool a little ;) Just looking at the snickers slice makes me wanna lick the screen!

GorgeousMommyK - thanks ever so much :)

Cocoa is a cutie. I took some photos at the field a couple of weeks ago. There were some I specifically took that made me look like a Centaur... My shadow and Cocoa's together. There are few photos of him as he's welds himself to my side when we go to visit ! I'll blog some soon.
