The new cupcake?

According to the Lubbock Online (who?) the cupcake is due to be usurped by the churro, a fried Latino pastry, that's covered in sugar and cinnamon and often served with hot chocolate. According to Wikipedia it's often called the Mexican doughnut and is named after its resemblance to a churro sheep's horn!

Anyways, according to Lubbock Online, the cupcakes days are numbered and soon this fried treat will be taking over from cupcakes. I say Piffle and Tosh! I've seen churros a few times, most recently at the Innocent Fete, but I've not tried them, however I really don't think the cupcake need be quaking in its boots - just compare the pics above and tell me which looks nicer! Maybe it's my aversion to worms but the churro looks a bit wormy to me! Also the churro is deep fried so not as healthy as a cupcake...not that a cupcake is healthy as such but...you know ;)

Got a cupcake problem

Don't write to Mrs Mills of the Sunday Times expecting sympathy in her Mrs Mills Solves your Problems column! I read this in Sunday's paper while catching up on all the news at the superb Coffee@Whitecross - my favourite non-cupcake hangout in London and it made me laugh out loud! Enjoy :)

Miss Conceited
I went to the last of a long run of weddings at the weekend (14 in two years). On Sunday morning, I had a piece of chocolate wedding cake for breakfast, then a slice of the fruit cake layer for elevenses. For afternoon tea, I ate the most enormous cupcake, left over from the evening reception. Today I’ve eaten a piece of carrot cake and a mini lemon cake. I’m a size 10 and in my early thirties. Do I have a problem?
ZC, by e-mail

Yes. Watch out for a slap in the face. Nobody likes a show-off.

Live, Laugh, Love and cupcakes (of course!)

In the mail today the latest updates from the rather cute Live, Laugh, Love - an online store specialising in vintage style and country products, including some rather cute cupcake goodies.

I really like the welcome mat (although I have seen it for slightly cheaper in Smithfields market), the pin cushion, and the cute wall hangings - cute as a cupcake and sweet enough.

The site also has tonnes of other gorgeous stuff non-cupcake related, so much so I must stop looking or I'll spend a fortune!

Cupcakes, Sephora, More Shopping..oh my!

Thanks to All Things Cupcake for alerting me to Sephora's new Vanilla Cupcake Body Collection and to the fact that if you sign up for their beauty insider programme you get a freebie cupcake bubble bath on your birthday, which is rather spiffy as I'm in NY for my birthday where the fantastic HUGE Sephora is (and is probably my nearest one now they're no longer in the UK...boo). I've signed up already, be warned you need a USA zip code (I used a friends!)

Manny if you're reading this guess where we're going on my birthday ;)

Squeal like a pig for meaty cupcakes

Spotted on Cupcakes take the Cake another meaty cupcake, this time with bacon and a french toast base, made by Sweetkisses0530, with the full recipe available on her blog! They look rather nice, although I'm just not sure about the whole idea about savoury cupcakes! They're meant to be sweet, and preferably pink surely!

Hello cupcake..theres a queue!

I found this via my Google news alerts...yes I've signed up for cupcake news alerts, and yes that may be a tad obsessive but meh!

Anyways a rather spiffy new cupcakery, Hello Cupcake has opened in Washington and has led to queues for cupcakes! The article seemed to imply that $3 is expensive for a cupcake, they should come to the UK!!! Also I read on Cupcakes take the Cake that they've imposed a four cupcake rule, so even after you've queued for an hour to get a cake they only let you have four!!! Mind you perhaps they should impose that here too - my diet (well LACK of diet currently) could do with some policing!

I love their section on the anatomy of a cupcake!

I want to try the vanilla gorilla, prima donna (SOOOO pink and gorgeous looking), the princess (so me!), de lime and de coconut (I have a thing for coconut cake at the mo so maybe even the triple coconut!) and the maya favourite, with chili sounds lovely too! Oh I want them all! Wonder if I could nip there while I'm in New York ;)

If you're nearby go check it out and let us know how it was

Football crazy, football mad...

Today's cupcake email came from Lola's Kitchen to alert you to their fantastic new football range! You can get them in any team's colours and any of their flavours! How fab - but why would you choose any team apart from Glasgow Rangers???

Mountain Dew Cupcakes

While we were in America last year Manny fell in love with Mountain Dew, so much so I've been buying it from Cyber Candy in Covent Garden for him with money I could be spending on cupcakes!

I found these fantastic looking cupcakes on How to Eat a Cupcake's lovely blog (check out the blog for a fantastic range of recipes for cupcakes and frosting!) and had to share them!

I think these look absolutely yummy and I bet Manny will be drooling over them! Thanks Cassie for letting me use the pic and I think I may have to pack some Mountain Dew in my case when I go to NY in March and make these on my return!

Covent Garden Night Market - 2nd try

We went along on Thursday and again the stalls are just too crammed together while some twonk on some trapeze like contraption shouts at tourists - He had the whole piazza cordoned off for his "act" (Sorry I despise the "acts" round there - human statues should be concreted over to see just how it feels!).

Anyways we decided to just buy a few bits and head off - I had to get the 'I heart cake' chocolate cake from Beas as soon as I saw it! I shared it with Manny and it was really lovely! You can just taste the quality of Beas baking! The chocolate on the cake was fantastic and the cake itself was melt in the mouth gorgeous.

We also popped by Lavender Bakery's stall and picked up a couple of cupcakes - one coconut and lemon for me and a chocolate cupcake covered with ganache for Manny, and two pieces of their shortbread - lavender for me, green tea for Manny. We ate the shortbread at the market and it was really tasty, and we paid the 20p for a box for the cupcakes and took them home for pudding and they were absolutely gorgeous. My coconut was fantastic - the frosting was yummy and there was just the right amount of lemon and coconut :) Manny loved his ganache covered cupcake - mind you I sometimes think he'd eat dust if covered in ganache or frosting ;)
I really like the idea of the night market in Covent Garden - the Xmas one seemed to work better as it was on the other side of the piazza, so didn't get disturbed so much by tourists. I think they need to decide whether to have the market or the "entertainment" - surely for a couple of nights a year we can live without the acts and have room to enjoy some food - they could even put some tables out so people can eat the lovely food on sale like they do at the much nicer slow food markets at the South Bank! The way this market is you just grab stuff and take it home rather than browsing and having hot food!

Cupcake Customisation

Tshirt Patisserie offer to customise your cupcakes - you can choose from chocolate, pink velvet and lemon and they come in a rather spiffy looking box!

They cost £24.95 for a box of twelve! I tried out the online customisation tool -my Manowar cupcakes look a bit ropey, the picture was too big and it's cut poor Joey's head off, but my I heart cupcake ones look kinda cute!

They also do tshirts and dresses that you can put anything you want on :)

Mmmmmmm meat???

Meat cupcakes? Sounds yukky to me but maybe I'd feel differently if I actually liked lamb?

I found these today checking out different cupcake recipes and thought it was unusual - then I googled meat cupcakes and found loads including this rather fab photographic story of how to bake meatloaf cupcakes and these rather fancy looking meat ones (bottom picture)

Not sure I'd eat them but they do look cute! Think I'd rather stick to good old Martha's lamb cupcakes!

It's Thursday so its CUPCAKE time :)

This weeks Covent Garden night market will be hosting Lavender Bakery's fabulous items this Thursday so get along there and sample some!!!

You can see some lovely pics of the market at Helen Grave's blog as well, including some more cupcake pics!

You can't stop rock n roll!

Not only are TWISTED SISTER one of the best bands in the world - they make cupcakes too at the Twisted Sister bakery in Chicago!! Not only does it sound fab but they'll custom frost your cupcakes for you!! I'm going to have to beg my chum Rene (a fellow fan of Twisted Sister) to pop over there and sample them!

I was rather upset they didn't have a Dee Snider cupcake though - don't you think he looks as cute as a cupcake!!!

Cupcake beads

Aren't these adorable!!

I really like the octopus covered cupcake!

Spooky cupcake cases

I really shouldn't look at Ebay while sat at home on a Saturday night as I have no self control!

Well they were only a couple of pounds, although I did buy two packs - one as a gift for someone :)

Cupcake Wars!

From my daily foray into Google news alerts on cupcakes

Cupcake makers at war over dot-in-circle trademark

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Sprinkles Cupcakes, a California purveyor of mini-cakes beloved by Hollywood stars, has accused rival Famous Cupcakes of stealing its trademarked "Modern Dot" cupcake design to lure away clientele.

Sprinkles high-end pastries have made the rounds of U.S. media, from "The Oprah Winfrey Show" to "Nightline", drawing locals and out-of-towners who regularly wait in long lines outside the company's Beverly Hills store.

The company, which also runs stores in Texas and Arizona, accused Famous Cupcakes in a federal lawsuit filed on Thursday in Los Angeles of incorporating the "nested circle design" featured on Sprinkles cupcakes on Famous Cupcakes packaging, store decor, and "each and every page" of its website.

Unlike other cupcake imitators around the world who ceased using "Modern Dot" after being caught by Sprinkles, Famous Cupcakes has not responded to repeated requests to "promptly stop using its trademarked design," the lawsuit said.

The owner of Famous Cupcakes, who said on its website she began selling cupcakes door-to-door at age 7 and believes "one cupcake is never enough", could not be reached for comment.

I do hope they can sort this out amicably - remember make cupcakes not war!

I have to say I do like the look of the Famous cupcakes bouquet though!

I heart cake jewellery

Some lovely cake inspired jewellery is available at Hannah Zakari - including this fab I heart cake cupcake necklace and charm bracelet and the fetching I heart cake ring. All by Hoolala.

Also available, this adorable fabric ring and ear-rings by FluffsStuffs. Click the link for more of her items in her Etsy store!

I'm completely chuffed and delighted to have received the Arte y Pico award (my first award in fact), which originated in Uruguay and is given for creativity and design, thanks to the lovely Hannah of Hannah's Country Kitchen and my favourite foodies show Masterchef!!!

Here are the rules that accompany the award;

1. Choose 5 blogs that you consider deserving of this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and their contribution to the blogging community.
2. Each award has to have the name of the author and a link to his/her blog.

3. Each award winner has to show the award and put the name of and link to the blog that presented her/him with the award.

4. The award winner and the one who has given the prize has to show the link of Arte Y Pico blog so everyone will know the origin of this award.

5. Show these rules.

I am going to think about who I award the Arte Y Pico to as I'm such a blog addict I need to narrow it down to five!

By the way go and check out Hannah's blog - I really MUST get round to making the Last Rolo cupcakes which I've been drooling over since February 13th!!

DIY cupcakes - LA Style

My adorable friend Dennis returned from his trip back to Ann Arbour with a veritable feast of goodies for me. I'm so lucky to have someone who will happily schlep to Williams Sonoma for me, although he claims he refused their offer to sign up to their mailing list and pleaded with them to restrict internet access to America only..pshaw! Never mind I check the site LOADS! Way too much actually -its a bit obsessive!

Of course I'm ALWAYS excited to meet my friends but this time was particularly exciting as Dennis - the worst surprise keeper ever - had already told me what he'd bought me on the phone so I was totally excited all day Monday and it was worth it as he'd kept some secrets...like the two Cup A Cake containers (for cupcakes on the go!) he'd gotten and a MASSIVE amount of Hello Kitty goodies! And of course the TWO bake your own SPRINKLES sets complete with their trademark dots! wuhu

I can't wait to bake them and eat them of course :)

GIANT GIANT Grobswitchy Bun

A giganticus chocolate sponge cupcake, covered in chocolate buttercream icing, wispy-misty marshmallows, chocolate curls and drizzles

Bloody hell this was HUGE! But after a day of hell shopping in Surrey Quays (is there a reason everyone stinks when shopping but the personal hygiene aisle is always empty!?) it was impossible to resist this fantastic looking treat from the Roald Dahl collection of cakes and goodies in Tescos.

So as you can see this giant chocolate cupcake was GIANT and looked rather spiffy and it tasted rather great too! I'm not a big fan of chocolate cupcakes but this was really nice - the base was really soft and the frosting was really nice without being sickly!

There is a whole range of Roald Dahl goodies available at your local Tescos including normal sized cupcakes called Mr Twits Scary Hairy Cakes which are covered in jelly worms and other yukkiness - definitely worth popping to Tescos and reliving your childhood :)

By the way this is NOT something to eat often- check out the calorie/fat content...eeeeek!

I like big butts and I cannot lie

The Big Booty Bread Co on W.23rd Street in New York has been confounding me - I've tried to find its website (have you tried putting Big Booty in Google!?) but although I can't find its official site (I'm still working on it) I have found a zillion reviews claiming that they make the best red velvet and Dulce de leche (drool) cupcakes in NY.

I simply MUST visit it -and buy one of those fantastic shirts for Manny - luckily he does indeed "heart big booty" as you could park a bus in the shadow of mine ;) And this is probably because since I read about Dulce de leche booty buns I've been practically licking the pic on my screen!

The thin girl can keep screaming - she is NEVER getting out!

New Yorks top cupcakery?

So last time we went to New York we only got round to going to Buttercup, and we loved it so much we just kinda stuck with it - in truth it was sooooo hot there we barely ate, drinking more Vitamin Water than much else.

However when we go next year, its going to be cold, perfect weather for stocking up on cupcakes to keep us warm so I've been searching where to go - there are so many to choose from and the Zagat list of New Yorks best cupcakes suggests...

1. Sugar Sweet Sunshine
2. Amy’s Bread
3. Baked BKLYN*
3. Billy’s Bakery*
3. Make My Cake*
*– indicates a tie for 3rd place
I've been spending a LOT of time online researching my planned birthday cupcake tour so expect more New York cupcake posts over the next few months :)

More Argos cupcake goodies

Can you tell I picked up a copy of the HUGE new Argos catalogue and have scoured it for cupcake goodness?

The cupcake body jewellery costs £4.99, the prints £24.99, the cake studs £14.99, the set of 3 notebooks, which includes a 2009 diary is £9.99. If I don't find any other cupcake diary I think I shall be buying the notebooks :)

Rise of the frosting machines....

Tipped in the States to be one of the top Xmas toys for Girls this year (and boys with taste I'd say!) the Girl Gourmet Cupcake Maker has arrived at Argos! And if you buy it now you get half price refill kits. Not sure how these cupcakes taste (microwave cupcakes from a packet?..hmmm) but they look like fun and following my rather sticky attempt to frost using one of those piping bags I might be better off with the rather fancy looking cupcake froster machine! Certainly have less chance of ending up standing in the kitchen covered in frosting if I used it!

By the way, if the earth were to be invaded by giant frosting machines how cool would that be...yummmmm frosting :)

Cupcake Shoes

Another pair of cupcake shoes I have no hope of walking in, this time from Irregular Choice.

Although these are called the Ice Cream shoe, they in fact feature little cupcakes, like the one above from their vest, as well as cute ice cream cones, you just can't see them very well in the picture!
Aren't they cute - pity I fall over in high heels :(

Holy cupcakes, fat anne

It's amazing what you find while browsing your Google alerts for cupcake news! According to Design Week some rather tasty cupcakes can be found in this former methodist church, now art gallery Project 176!

I shall have to make a pilgrimage up to Chalk Farm to check them out! (hint Manny, hint)

Btw if you wanted to make holy cupcakes, you can buy some holy cupcake crap here

Bake a cupcake, help an animal

What better reason to eat a cupcake than to help the RSPCA with their cupcake day- unfortunately its in Austrlia but maybe I should send it to the RSPCA here and suggest it. It looks ever so much fun

Grab your cupcake ingredients, dust off your chef's hat and get your mixer ready for Cupcake Day for the RSPCA, a new RSPCA fundraising initiative.

On Monday 18 August, RSPCA Cupcake Cooks across Australia will descend on their schools, workplaces and social groups with batches of yummy homemade cupcakes to sell. 100% of the proceeds will go to the RSPCA.

Whether you want to be an RSPCA Cupcake Cook or simply an RSPCA Cupcake eater — you will be supporting the thousands of animals we care for everyday.

There's a competition for those who take part and send a pic of their cupcakes and even a recipe for pupcakes! You can even buy cupcake day merchandise like the tea towels above.

How cute :)
**Thanks to the ever wonderful Cupcakes Take the Cake for alerting me to Cupcake Day!

The countdown begins....

It is now 206 days (and counting) till we go to New York for my birthday trip and already I'm getting pathetically excited, planning where to go, things to do, where to eat and of course CUPCAKING to be done!

Cupcakes Take The Cake is proving, as ever, invaluable in such circumstances and I shall definitely be heading to Sweet Revenge, after reading their comments, to partake of both cupcakes AND frosting shots (something I didn't get round to trying last time!), and cupcakes ice cream desserts, if I can manage all three! I should perchance book two seats for the way home ;)

Their menu lists lots of fab sounding delights and I love the idea of it being a more "adult" cupcake store - cupcakes and booze...Manny's going to love it there as I noticed they have some English real ale on their menu - I'll never get him home!!

Oh I can't wait to visit!!!

(Thanks to Cupcakes Take the Cakes's Rachel for the pics which I borrowed from her Flickr!)

Narborough Hall...fairy cakes galore

Not quite cupcakes BUT I read this story in my current edition of Waitrose Food Illustrated and I just HAD to share it! These two little girls are a fantastic example to the youth of today - I can't believe how adorable they are..almost brings out a maternal instinct in me...well, not quite, but they could bake cakes for me ;)

Welcome to The Perfect Spot.
This idyllic tearoom can be found in the grounds of Narborough Hall, a private country home and art gallery in Norfolk surrounded by woods, lakes and parkland. Narborough's café is run not, as you might expect, by rosy-cheeked tea ladies or one of those City-high-fliers turned country-yummy-mummy so beloved of the Sunday supplements, but by a talented, dedicated 12-year-old girl and her seven-year-old sister.

Meet Fen Sandelson, chef-patron of The Perfect Spot. Fen, the elder sister, is in Narborough's huge, sunny jumble of a kitchen, icing a batch of fairy cakes. On top of each dainty cake, she confidently places a sprig of her namesake fennel.

"I really love cooking and baking - I want to be a chef when I'm older," she beams. "It was my idea to open the café and I made up the name, The Perfect Spot, because it is."

Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Fen's idea is that the café's customers don't pay: the food and drinks are free. Instead visitors are encouraged to leave a donation for Fen and Mermaid's chosen charity, the Fairyland Trust. This organisation aims to inspire and engage children and families in wildlife conservation through workshops and fairs, some of which are held at Narborough. The girls also share the proceeds with local charities, including the nearby church.

You can read the whole story here and get the girls recipes too!

Keep calm

and have a cupcake!

There's little else to say except I WANT THIS! NOW!

Hummingbird, hummingbird yum yum yum

On our annual pilgrimage to all things beer, The Great British Beer Fest, at Earls Court, we decided to lunch at Hummingbird on cupcakes and coffee. However after spotting the humongous slices of cake we instead opted for cake for lunch (red velvet for me, devils chocolate for Manny) and got some cupcakes to take away!

The cake was absolutely delicious and the people in Hummingbird were really nice and friendly, as people should be if they work surrounded by frosting and fabulousness :)

We got four cupcakes to take away - a red velvet each (Manny had a chunk of my cake and fell in love), a black bottom and a vanilla. Manny decided that the black bottom is his favourite flavour ever and mine were yummy as usual! The bases are always really light and soft, and the frosting is absolutely melt in your mouth lovely, with lots of it but not so much that it gets sickly! As you can see from the pics they got a little squished at the beer fest and from my photography you can probably tell I got a little squiffy!!! I can safely say that cupcakes are a far better drunken late night snack than any kind of kebab!
Hummingbird definitely is in my top cupcake places in London :)

Attack of the giant cupcake

Big Brother housemates spent yesterday competing with each other in a bake-off.

The two teams, Heaven and Hell, were given four hours to construct scale models of the Millennium Dome and St Paul's Cathedral using only eggs, flour, milk and sugar.

They were also given cake decorations, icing and sweets to accessorise their creations.

As Head of the House, Rachel was banned from taking part in the task, but was required to dress as a giant cupcake to oversee the task and judge the winner.

Supposedly she is quite a grumpy cupcake and can be watched on Channel4 at 9pm tonight!

Covent Garden Night Market

As mentioned below we went to Covent Garden Night Market today and ate some rather scrummy cupcakes.

The Market is on every Thursday and Friday in August (Thurs - 4-10 and Fri 12-9) and there are two cupcake sellers there; Violet and Beas of Bloomsbury. The top pic above is of Beas stall! (the others are of the cupcakes we bought from Violet). There is also another bakery called Cinnamon Tree Bakery which had some rather yummy looking giant cookies and some cute owl shaped shortbread which I shall be trying next time!

The Markets also have some celeb chefs and I shall be popping along to see Willie Harcourt Cooze (the modern day Willie Wonka) on the 22nd and on Friday 29th I'm dragging Manny along to see Fergus Henderson of St John fame and see what he's cooking as on one of the press releases about the market they said you could eat squirrel there but thankfully I didn't see that...poor cute squirls!

Apart from cupcakes and famous chefs there's loads of fancy food to try so brave the crowds and pop along!

Violet cupcakes....Sweet 'n' (a bit too) salty

I dragged Manny to the Covent Garden Night Market today with the promise of dinner and cupcakes from Violet.

After finding their gorgeous stall amongst the throngs of tourists we bought four for £8: valrhona chocolate; English blackberry; coconut and salted caramel. I was keen to try salted caramel cupcakes after reading about them on the net and printing out this recipe y'day with every intention of baking them. My intentions have now changed. It's about 3 hours since I ate the cupcake and I can still taste it, my mouth is both salty and dry and just not pleasant. Don't get me wrong, Violet cupcakes were REALLY lovely, the coconut one, and the bites I had of Manny's were utterly tasty, and at first I really thought I liked the salted caramel...then the salty taste got stronger, and stronger and now I just feel a bit blurgh. The base of it was lovely and soft though and if you like sweet n salty things then I'm sure you'd love it!

Violet cupcakes are really nice and worth heading to the food market for, or to Broadway market where they are available too! They really do taste as good as they look (with one exception!!!). I'm going back next week to get a vanilla bean one, and a strawberry (which was my first choice, until I was swayed by the exotic sounding caramel one..grrrr)

Pandamonium with (cup)cakes

This post isn't 100% cupcake...but, pandas are officially the animal equivalent of a cupcake, ever so cute and you never tire of them,so I'm featuring the adorable Zhen Zhen of San Diego zoo who recently celebrated her first birthday with a honey dipped ice cake, the panda equivalent of a cupcake! And poor Zhen Zhen had her very own "Manny" trying to steal a chunk of her cake as her mummy panda Bai Yun kept trying to steal the cake away...naughty panda!

Anyways to keep this slightly cupcake related check out these magnificent panda cupcakes from the very talented Jenny of California!

Cuteness all round in this post :)

Sleep tight cupcake

I've fallen in love with Semk via Hostess with the Mostess. I really wanted a rather funky giraffe kitchen roll holder but after searching their site trying to buy it I've now discovered something WAAAAY better which I simply MUST have - I've totally fallen in lust with their CUPCAKE night light!! Oh.my.GOD I MUST have it! I've emailed them to find it as Google searches have proved fruitless! I must have it!!!

HELP!

Monday, 4 August 2008

Tickle me....

ELMO cupcakes!

Again found via the Hostess with the Mostess blog, with the recipe and step by step instructions on how to make them from Just Jenn Recipes.

A new obsession

I have become scarily obsessed with the blog Hostess with the Mostess and have spent rather too long in the last few days catching up with it, all after seeing the amazing Pepe and Friends on it! I simply MUST have all of those items for my kitchen...NOW! Anyways the HWTM has the most fantastic cupcakes including these fabulous Pucco and Ice Cream ones - how adorable are they! The cupcakes are made by the fantastic Hello Naomi, check out her other cupcakes here.

Lakeland...for all your cupcake needs

I get pathetically excited when my Lakeland catalogue thuds through the door, and this time it was even more exciting as it had a lot of cupcake goodies, including the cupcake caddy, which I think I shall have to get!
They also have some rather fab halloween cupcake cases and some Pudsey ones which if you buy you donate some money to Children in Need.

Counting the days...till cupcakes

Last week we booked a trip to my favourite place in the world NEW YORK, for next March to celebrate my birthday so I spent rather too much time at work on Friday looking at cupcake websites for places to do my cupcake tour of NY on my birthday! And believe me there are LOADS so expect lots of posts about New York cupcake places!
If you're reading this and are from NY, or have visited feel free to post suggestions!!! I shall definately be going back to Buttercup as I loved it (and we're staying next to it again!) and will also be heading to the Little Cupcake Bakeshop as not only do the cupcakes look lovely, but they are carbon neutral and have been noted as the world's first carbon neutral bakery, how cool :)

BTW its currently 213 days till we go to New York..wuhu

A yummy birthday is on the cards...

I bought this lovely cupcake birthday card in Clinton Cards on Friday - isn't it cute :)

Luckily bad service and sour faces do not curdle frosting

I was planning on going to Profile to grab some Outsider Tart cupcakes as I couldn't make it to Richmond or Chiswick for cupcake weekend but after one of my cats decided to throw up on their scratching post I had to go buy another one in Camden, the only place they sell the Fat Cat Big Mama which is their fav, so I decided to pop to Primrose Bakery.

I bought four cupcakes, vanilla, chocolate, mocha and lemon and coconut. As usual their cupcakes were really nice, although my vanilla base was a little dry, and the frosting was fabulous. However once again their service was utterly non-existent - the lady serving me boxed the cupcakes, thrust my change at me and then walked off to resume her conversation with the other lady behind the counter - I think both of them are the owners (one of them definitely is). No "do you need a bag?", "thanks for coming" or any other such frivolous customer service. Their cakes are nice but I will only be going back if I'm in the area and really am craving a cupcake and coffee.

Innocent Cupcakes

We went to the Innocent Fete in Regent's Park yesterday and it was a fab day of great food, real ale, welly wanging and cake!!!! We didn't actually do much except sit on a bay hale drinking Adnams Ale, enjoying the sun and having a great time!! We ate some lovely food, I had some Fab burritos from Freebird, Manny had some Jerk Chicken and brownies and I scoffed a couple (well one and a half after Manny took a bite!) cupcakes from Beverley Hills Bakery.

They were lovely and soft cupcakes, although the frosting had melted a bit in the heat! They cost £2 at the Fete, although looking at the website they're about £3 each, so rather expensive cupcakes!
